the Jazz and Rock Studio

The jazz and rock studio is a part of Mason's School of Music that emphasizes learning to play and understand jazz and rock music. The method used incorporates the same approach used by traditional instruments, in that all students should not only learn how to play an instrument but also be able to speak and understand the "musical language". At Mason's School of Music, students of traditional instruments learn this "musical language" in music lab. Since the knowledge needed to play jazz and rock music is different than traditional intruments, students of the jazz and rock studio in addition to their lesson, take a special version of music lab.

Electric Guitar Classes

The methods used and classroom setup is the most unique of it's kind. Students use methods designed by David Mason which not only teach students to play rock music, but gives them the knowledge and understanding of what they are playing. The class utilizes mini amps which allow the students to practice with headphones or play as a group with a backup band tape.

$75 per month

Private Lessons

The jazz and rock studio private lessons are different from the regular private lessons at Mason's School of Music in that they emphasize playing rock music. This distinction is made due to two main reasons: the techniques used to play rock music is different and most importantly, the "musical language" is different. Lessons are offered in electric guitar, electric bass, keyboard, drums, brass instruments and voice and can be 30 minute, 45 minute or 60 minutes in length. Email us to find out if we have a time to fit your schedule. Please include the length of lesson, the instrument, the age of the student and all possible day and times.

Cost:

30 minute private: $85 per month / with Music lab $110 per month

45 minute private: $127.50 per month / with Music lab $152.50 per month

60 minute private: $170 per month / with Music lab $195 per month

Rock Band Classes

The rock band classes are for the students who have completed the electric guitar classes or have taken private lessons and can meet the requirements for entrance into the classes. In these classes, students of electric guitar, electric bass, drums, keyboards and voice are grouped together to play in a rock band. The instructors at Mason's School of Music coach the students on what their parts are and what role they play in each song.

Spring 2005 class

Monday 4:30-5:30 pm

Wednesday 3:30-4:30

Jazz Band Classes

The jazz band classes are for those students who have basic knowledge of music and their intruments. In these classes, students of electric guitar, electric bass, drums, keyboards and brass instruments are grouped together to play in a jazz band. The students will learn many of the jazz standards as they learn their function and techniques of playing in a jazz band.

$75 per month

$110 per month with the 30 minute Music Lab class
